[Content Warning] The Nine-to-Fifer

"It's OK"
says she
as he
is cut,
still bleeding,
from the frame
where he has hung
for his daily
flagellation.
"You're with me,
and you love me,
so all the pain
is worthwhile
and washed
away
as we move
towards our goals"
He groans
and points out
"the goals
- they're yours,
though I do love you"
- and he is
sincere,
having fallen in love
before the daily torment
"But we're together now"
says she
"So my goals are now ours"
and gaily
she continues
"See this
pretty bauble
you paid for
for me
- I do so appreciate
all the work you do
for me.
So ...
what shall we do
for entertainment and fun
tonight?
try not to bleed
on the couch, dearest"
and he groans
and weeps inside,
the nine to fifer.
